Really powerful words. I'm not religious but this is what I would think 'something Jesus would say' for those 'Christians' who support the right winged agenda."
It's a crisp, sunny Autumn Saturday here on The South Bank...
I hate to break it to Y'All, BUT It's actually even worse: WE just Don't Give a Damn about Each Other! HIV/AIDS, after 30 years, remains the Stepchild of Disease Awareness across this Country!? Oh, we had no problem painting everything Pepto Pink all last month or Going RED for Heart Disease, but getting Americans to Stand Up and Face HIV/AIDS is as hard or harder than it was to get them to face "Leprosy". My most Trusted Case manager @ No Ky Health, Paul; always described the scene in a Doctor's office, when a Patient comes out & tells their Family they have "Cancer" there's lots of hugs, compassion & comfort, but the one that comes Out & says they're "HIV+" walks away with none of that... And it's as TRUE Today as it was 30 Years ago!

The Denver Principles: The Denver Principles were drafted during the conference. They read:

Hi Steph, (Stephanie VogelStephanie.Vogel@nkyhealth.org)
- We condemn attempts to label us as ‘victims,’ a term that implies defeat, and we are only occasionally ‘patients,’ a term that implies passivity, helplessness, and dependence upon the care of others. We are ‘People With AIDS.’.
- RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ALL PEOPLE.
- 1. Support us in our struggle against those who would fire us from our jobs, evict us from our homes, refuse to touch us or separate us from our loved ones, our community or our peers, since available evidence does not support the view that AIDS can be spread by casual, social contact.
- 2. Not scapegoat people with AIDS, blame us for the epidemic or generalize about our lifestyles.
- RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH AIDS.
- 1. Form caucuses to choose their own representatives, to deal with the media, to choose their own agenda and to plan their own strategies.
- 2. Be involved at every level of decision-making and specifically serve on the boards of directors of provider organizations.
- 3. Be included in all AIDS forums with equal credibility as other participants, to share their own experiences and knowledge.
- 4. Substitute low-risk sexual behaviors for those that could endanger themselves or their partners; we feel people with AIDS have an ethical responsibility to inform their potential sexual partners of their health status.
- RIGHTS OF PEOPLE WITH AIDS.
- 1. To as full and satisfying sexual and emotional lives as anyone else.
- 2. To quality medical treatment and quality social service provision without discrimination of any form including sexual orientation, gender, diagnosis, economic status or race.
- 3. To full explanations of all medical procedures and risks, to choose or refuse their treatment modalities, to refuse to participate in research without jeopardizing their treatment and to make informed decisions about their lives.
- 4. To privacy, to confidentiality of medical records, to human respect and to choose who their significant others are.
- 5. To die--and to LIVE--in dignity.

Hi Steph, (Stephanie VogelStephanie.Vogel@nkyhealth.org)
Please see Michael's email below. I am ready to end our relationship with him. No matter what we do, he is going to find fault. I have no desire to attempt to get him to "see the light". We're the enemy and don't care to attempt to continue to defend what we do.
since he is posting information for public consumption and via email blasts, do we refer to our legal adviser as to what to do. I am tempted to hit reply all and send out a statement that the HD is no longer associating with Michael.
I will not do anything until I hear from you.
Thanks,
Bob Ford, M.Ed.

Thx Cheryl Huff; We love to Sing (Be Empowered!) in The HIVE and are Happy to Teach All who come to US!
Love me, but I must make me happy.
Teach me, but I must do the learning.
Guide me, but I have to walk the path.
Coach me, but I must win that game.
... Promote me, but I must be successful.
Pity me, but I still feel the sorrow.
For the gift of love is not the food that feeds me;
it is the sunshine that nourishes what I must finally harvest for myself!!
So, if you love me, don’t just sing me a song;
teach me to sing, for when I am alone I will need the melody.
I hope Our Friends will take the time to read the "Director's Note" from "Fight with LOVE!". My friend Bob recently reminded me that "I am not the enemy. Neither is the health department." I am well aware of that; however, having been thru ..."the System" over the last 20 Years, I also know that you are under-funded, under-staffed, don't have the funding Capabilities of our Non-Profit -AVNK which you won't press for fear what help is received would be lost, ditto that for stopAIDS & the AIDS Walk... What can you do to make it real in your community?
Read the National HIV/AIDS Strategy: In July 2010, the White House released the National HIV/AIDS Strategy. Read the Strategy [PDF 1.34 MB] and talk about it with your friends and colleagues.World AIDS Day December 1: "Leading with Science, Uniting for Action"
"Interestingly, another important point is for a city to partner with small healthcare and technology businesses. Covington has made strides in that effort in recent months with growth planned for bioLOGIC, the new HealthPoint, the new Saint Elizabeth Hospital and the tech firms on Pike Street. The CCAP may be the most successful plan yet simply by the fact that much of the initial conversation involves steps already being taken by Covington."South Bank HIVe CommUNITY-Based Network shared a link.
